Ahmednagar (Maharashtra): Social activist Anna Hazare has once again announced a hunger strike. According to reports, he will begin his hunger strike from January 30, 2026, in protest against the non-implementation of the Lokayukta Act in Maharashtra.
In this regard, he has written a letter to state CM Devendra Fadnavis, stating that he will hold the hunger strike in Ralegan Siddhi. The Maharashtra government passed the Lokayukta Bill in the Legislative Assembly on December 28, 2022, and in the Legislative Council on December 15, 2023. According to the latest information, it has not yet been implemented, which is why he has decided to go on a hunger strike. Anna Hazare stated that India has always been governed by the law. The primary function of the Lok Sabha and the state Legislative Assembly is to enact laws. Implementing the Lokayukta Act in the state is crucial now. A meeting was held between the government and him regarding this matter. The government assured implementation, but the state government is not fulfilling its promise. He stated that if a strong Lokpal law is not implemented in the state, he has no right to live.
Social activist Anna Hazare further stated that as long as he is alive, he will dedicate his life to the welfare of the country. He stated that he has no desire for anything in life. He only needs a bed to sleep on and utensils to eat. He added that January 30th is the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He has always been his role model. Anna Hazare stated that this hunger strike will continue until the Lokayukta law is implemented.
Anna Hazare previously launched a movement against corruption in 2011. This movement was held at Ramlila Ground in the capital, Delhi, regarding the Jan Lokpal Bill. Lakhs of people took to the streets in this movement.
