New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) in Nathanpur district of Cachar, Assam, on Friday. According to reports, this phase will cover 1,954 border villages across 15 states and two union territories. A statement issued on Thursday stated that VVP-II, designed to ensure the holistic and sustainable development of border villages, will be a centrally funded scheme with an outlay of ₹6,839 crore by the financial year 2028-29.
Sharing a related post on social media, Shah wrote, “Tomorrow, Friday, I will launch Vibrant Village Programme-II (VVP-2) in Assam. The Vibrant Village Programme (VVP) fulfills Modi’s vision for the development of India’s first villages.” He stated that the Vibrant Village Program (VVP) has brought all the amenities available in other parts of the country to border villages.
The Home Minister stated that the Vibrant Village Program-II has stopped migration from border villages, made them better places to live, and increased border security manifold. The Vibrant Village Program-II (VVP-II) will extend these benefits to more villages and strengthen the border. The statement also stated that the program focuses on improving essential infrastructure, increasing access to basic services, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities, thereby creating safe, strong, and prosperous communities living along the border, in line with the vision of a developed India.
The Vibrant Village Program (VVP) was approved by the Central Government on February 15, 2023. It covers 662 selected villages in 46 blocks along the northern border in 19 districts of the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh. Under this, the Home Ministry has approved 2,558 projects/works worth ₹3,431 crore, and launched over 8,500 activities, including awareness campaigns, health and veterinary camps, fairs and festivals, and tourism promotion.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai stated in the Lok Sabha on February 3 that on April 2, 2025, the government approved the second phase, in which 1,954 villages along the international border in 15 states and two union territories were identified for large-scale development. The statement said that by strengthening these villages, the program also helps the people there become the eyes and ears of the country, significantly contributing to border security, preventing cross-border crime, and strengthening internal security.
