New Delhi: Responding to increased passenger demand following widespread flight cancellations, Indian Railways has added 116 extra coaches to a total of 37 trains across the country, running over 114 extra trips. According to the Railway Ministry, the Railways has taken major steps to ensure smooth travel and adequate accommodation availability across the network.
Southern Railway (SR) has made the largest increase, increasing capacity on 18 trains. Additional chair car and sleeper class coaches have been added on high-demand routes. A railway official said these changes, implemented from December 6, have significantly increased accommodation capacity in the southern region.
Northern Railway (NR) has added 3AC and chair car coaches to eight trains. The Ministry said these measures, implemented today, will increase availability on the heavily traveled Northern Corridor. Western Railway (WR) has added 3AC and 2AC coaches to four high-demand trains. These additions will be effective from December 6th to accommodate increased passenger traffic from the western region to the national capital.
East Central Railway (ECR) has strengthened the Rajendra Nagar-New Delhi (12309) service by adding additional 2AC coaches on five trips between December 6th and 10th, increasing capacity on this vital Bihar-Delhi sector. East Coast Railway (ECoR) has improved connectivity between Odisha and the capital by adding 2AC coaches on five trips to the Bhubaneswar-New Delhi service (trains 20817/20811/20823).
Eastern Railway (ER) has augmented three special trains. Sleeper class coaches have been added on six trips on December 7th and 8th to meet the growing demand for eastern region and inter-state travel. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has added 3AC and sleeper coaches to two essential trains from December 6th to 13th to ensure uninterrupted travel for passengers in the Northeast.
A railway official further stated that in addition to these improvements, Indian Railways is also operating four special train services to assist passengers. The Gorakhpur โ Anand Vihar Terminal โ Gorakhpur Special (05591/05592) will run four trips between December 7th and 9th. The New Delhi โ Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan โ New Delhi Reserved Vande Bharat Special (02439/02440) will run on December 6th, providing fast and comfortable connectivity to the Jammu region.
To meet the increased demand in the Western region, the New Delhi โ Mumbai Central โ New Delhi Reserved Superfast Special (04002/04001) will run on December 6th and 7th. Additionally, Hazrat Nizamuddin โ Thiruvananthapuram Central Reserved Superfast Special (04080) will run one-way on December 6, providing long-distance connectivity towards the southern region.
