Baramati (Maharashtra): Bidding farewell to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, a close aide revealed the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief’s last wish: that the two factions of the NCP should merge. Ajit Pawar’s ashes were immersed in the Sangam river today. Meanwhile, a CID investigation has been ordered into the plane crash.
“Ajit Dada wanted the two opposing factions of the NCP to reunite. He wanted everyone to come together,” said Kiran Gujar, a member of Vidya Pratishthan and a close associate of the Pawar family. “This was his last wish.” Gujar added, “There were discussions within the family and the party on this issue. In my last phone call with him, he had asked me for some election-related documents.”
NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Rajesh Tope confirmed Gujar’s claims and said that the merger decision was largely finalized.
“The merger was almost finalized in Ajit Dada’s presence. Only a formal announcement was pending, which could have been made after the Zilla Parishad elections,” Tope said.
