Know about Ghorakhal Sainik School: Sainik School Ghorakhal was established on 21 March 1866. An interesting incident is also associated with its name. During the freedom struggle of 1857, a British general was wandering in this area to escape from the revolutionaries. Where the horse of this British general suddenly died while drinking water from the pond. Since then, the local people named this place Ghorakhal.
‘Khal’ in Kumaon means ‘pond’. According to historical documents, the Ghorakhal property was gifted to General Wheeler by the British rulers in the year 1870. After this, another incident happened in the next century i.e. in the year 1921. The then Nawab of Rampur Hamid Ali bought this property. When the country became independent in 1947, when the Privy Purse (special amount given to the Nawabs) ended, in 1964 the then Uttar Pradesh government bought the property of Ghorakhal from Nawab Hamid Ali. After which Sainik School Ghorakhal was established on 21 March 1966.
