After 17 days, the Ganges arrived at Har Ki Pauri. Devotees coming to bathe in the Ganges found abundant water early in the morning. Devotees took a plentiful dip in the Ganges. The Upper Ganges Canal was closed for repairs by the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department on October 2nd at midnight during Dussehra.
During the annual closure, the Ganges Canal was cleaned, gates were repaired, and damaged banks were repaired. However, this year, due to the ten-day Navratri festival, the Ganges Canal was closed for one day less than last year. Until now, the closure was for 18 days, but this year it was for 17 days. The closure of the Ganges Canal had stopped the flow of the Ganges flowing to Har Ki Pauri.
This caused difficulties for devotees coming to bathe in the Ganges. However, the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department was releasing water for Ganga Aarti. The canal was opened at midnight on October 19th and 20th, the night of Chhoti Diwali.
Harish Kumar, Deputy Engineer at the Bhimgoda Barrage of the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department, stated that the necessary work below ground level had been completed during the Ganga Canal closure. Now, external work will continue. With the resumption of water supply in the upper Ganga Canal, water will flow at Har Ki Pauri as usual. Devotees will not face any difficulties bathing in the Ganga.
