Mussoorie: An accident that could have taken the form of a major accident was narrowly avoided in the tourist city of Mussoorie. There was chaos near Little Lama Restaurant on Upper Mall Road when a careless jeep driver hit two-wheelers parked on the roadside and also hit two women. Fortunately, no one died in the accident. The entire incident was captured in a CCTV camera installed nearby.
According to eyewitnesses, on Sunday evening, a jeep driver lost control on Upper Mall Road and rapidly hit parked bikes and moved towards two women coming from the front. One woman was seriously injured in this accident, while the other woman narrowly escaped. People present nearby immediately ran for help. But before anyone could catch the jeep driver, he fled from the spot after seeing the crowd.
As soon as the information about the accident was received, Mussoorie Kotwali police immediately reached the spot and the injured woman was admitted to the nearest hospital for first aid. Mussoorie Kotwali SSI Krishna Kumar said that the police has taken the jeep into custody and has also arrested the absconding driver. However, no complaint has been received from the injured yet. A case will be registered as soon as the complaint is received. At present, the police is taking further action as per the rules.
A local shopkeeper present at the spot said, the speed of the jeep was not high. Otherwise the accident could have been very big. The road has already become very narrow. Shops on one side and vehicles parked on the other, due to which there is no way left for pedestrians. He said that illegal parking on the roadside on Upper Mall Road, uncontrolled movement of vehicles and operation of big vehicles on narrow roads is becoming a threat to pedestrians.
Keeping in view the safety of both local citizens and tourists, people are demanding from the administration that strict action should be taken against two-wheelers and four-wheelers parked on the roadside. Regular police patrolling should be increased, so that compliance of traffic rules can be ensured.
