Mumbai: Mumbai Police has arrested a sailor (Agniveer) and his brother from Asifabad in Telangana for allegedly stealing INSAS rifles and 40 cartridges loaded in three magazines from Mumbai’s high-security Navy Nagar.
The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of Mumbai Police nabbed 22-year-old Rakesh Ramesh Dubbula, posted as Agniveer in the Navy, and his brother 25-year-old Umesh Ramesh Dubbula from Asifabad district of Telangana. A special police team reached Mumbai with both the accused late in the evening. Considering the seriousness of the incident, the accused were produced before the magistrate late at night and taken on remand.
Mumbai Crime Branch Deputy Commissioner Rajtilak Roshan said that both the accused have been sent to police custody till September 15. It is being told that one of the two is a firefighter. Rakesh Dubbula and his brother Umesh Dubbula have been arrested in this case.
Both were arrested from Naxal-affected areas. Rakesh was working at the Kochi Naval Base for the last one year, after which he also worked in Mumbai for some time. Both were arrested from the Naxal-affected area of ​​Yelgapalli in Asifabad district of North Telangana. Mumbai Police has also succeeded in recovering the stolen rifle and cartridges from both of them. Deputy Commissioner Rajtilak Roshan said that the police told the court that their police custody is needed, as the investigation into the real motive behind the theft is going on. Two brothers Rakesh and Umesh have a ration shop in Yelgapalli village of Telangana. Rakesh has studied till 12th, while Umesh has passed 10th. Both came to Mumbai on 4 September. They had reconnoitred the Colaba area of ​​Mumbai for two days. Rakesh was posted here on security duty for a few days, so he had good knowledge of the area. On September 6, he was roaming in Navy Nagar in naval uniform. In this sequence, at 7.30 pm, he went to the restricted area of ​​AP Towers.

He told a soldier working there that there is a high alert at this time. They have received instructions to replace the soldier deployed for security. Saying that from now on he will be posted here, he took the INSAS rifle, 3 magazines and 40 live cartridges from the soldier on duty.
He asked the soldier to go to the hostel and left. At that time, as per the plan, Rakesh’s brother Umesh was standing on the other side of the wall outside Navy Nagar at the same place.
Then Rakesh threw the bag full of weapons on the other side of the wall as per the plan. Both of them started fighting from there. After some time, when the previous soldier came back there and seeing no one there, he informed his senior officers about this and the theft was revealed.
In this case, a case of theft was registered at the Cuffe Parade Police Station. Considering the seriousness of the case, Mumbai Police Crime Branch, Anti-Terrorism Squad, National Security Agency and Naval Police were searching for the accused everywhere.

The accused had reached Pune first and then Hyderabad
According to the information received from the preliminary investigation, after stealing the rifle from Navy Nagar, both of them reached Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. From there they first went to Pune and then to Hyderabad by train. From there they reached their native village Yelgapalli in Telangana. Mumbai Crime Branch Deputy Commissioner Rajtilak Roshan said that both have been charged under several sections of BNS including theft and Arms Act.
