A woman residing in Rudrapur’s Awas Vikas area reached the SSP’s office threatening to self-immolate, alleging harassment by the police. This caused a commotion in the premises. Police personnel snatched the bottle of petrol from her hand and presented her before the SP City.
On Saturday, Raj Bala Jain, a resident of Awas Vikas, arrived at the SSP’s office with a bottle of petrol, threatening to set herself on fire. Alerted police and intelligence personnel, with the help of female police officers, apprehended Raj Bala and took her directly to SP City Uttam Singh Negi. There, Raj Bala told SP City Uttam Singh Negi, Pantnagar CO DR Verma, and Transit Camp Station House Officer Mohan Chandra Pandey that her brother-in-law’s family had lived with her for 28 years. Later, they built houses in Jaynagar Dineshpur and Anand Vihar in Transit Camp. Three years ago, her brother-in-law moved to Anand Vihar Colony in Transit Camp to live with his family. She alleged that her brother-in-law now wants to seize her house, leading to a dispute that is also being heard in court.
On Friday, the Awas Vikas police outpost summoned her. When she arrived at the outpost, she alleged that her brother-in-law, with the help of the Awas Vikas councilor and the son of the Kichha MLA, and in collusion with the Awas Vikas police, broke the lock of her house and took possession of it. Raj Bala Jain demanded that she be given back possession of her house. She warned that if she was not given back her house, she would self-immolate at the SSP’s office. The woman calmed down after receiving assurances from the police officers and returned home
