A temporary city will be established for the 2027 Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. It will provide complete facilities, from police stations to hospitals. The state has sent a proposal to the central government in this regard. Accommodation poses a major challenge for devotees attending the Kumbh. Accommodation for pilgrims performing Kalpavas is also a challenge.
Therefore, the state government has decided to establish a temporary city in the Kumbh Mela area. This city will accommodate devotees and provide a comprehensive information system. The proposal has been sent to the central government.
This city, to be built on an area of 500 hectares, will include a convention hall with a capacity of 1,000. In addition to a police station, hospital, administrative building, offices of religious institutions, and an information center, 10 public housing complexes with a capacity of 25,000 devotees will be built. 150 camps will be set up in the Mela Circuit House. The aim is to ensure that devotees do not face any inconvenience.
A budget of 161 crore rupees has been requested for cleanliness.
The biggest challenge at the Kumbh Mela is cleanliness. Currently, 280 metric tons of waste is generated here daily. During the Kumbh Mela, 582 metric tons of waste is estimated to be generated daily. A cost of ₹161.18 crore is proposed to be spent on installing 10 compactor vehicles, 50 tipper trucks, 75 e-rickshaws, and six fecal sludge treatment plants for toilet waste disposal.
A separate budget has been proposed for sanitation during the Kumbh Mela. Toilet vehicles, dustbins, trash boom interceptors, refuse compactors, fogging machines, ghat cleaning machines, and human resources will be needed
