The festival of Diwali has ended, but this time in Dehradun, a man lost his sight in one eye due to careless firecrackers. People ignored repeated requests from doctors and the administration, resulting in a large number of people suffering from firecracker burns. Dr. Amit, Emergency Medical Officer at Doon Hospital, stated that from 8 a.m. on October 20th to 8 a.m. on October 21st, the number of burns from firecrackers in the Doon Hospital emergency department alone was astonishing. In these 24 hours, 54 cases of firecracker burns were reported in the Doon emergency department, while another case was reported in the Doon OPD. A 26-year-old man from Darbhanga, Bihar, lost his sight in one eye after his friend lit a firecracker on Sahastradhara Road. Dr. Sushil Ojha, Unit Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Doon Hospital, stated that the young man’s eyelids, pupils, retina, and tissues were all ruptured. The surgery, which lasted three hours, will require several more operations.
It should be noted that prior to Diwali, doctors had issued several advisories regarding precautions to be taken while bursting firecrackers. They emphasized the importance of adults accompanying children while bursting firecrackers. They emphasized the importance of maintaining a distance of at least eight feet from each other, and wearing goggles. However, many people failed to do so, leading to these accidents.
In addition, the bursting of Diwali firecrackers caused significant pollution, causing breathing difficulties. 345 people visited the Doon Hospital emergency room with respiratory problems due to the pollution. 26 fights were reported during the same period, and 46 road accidents were reported that day. 35 people were admitted for various ailments
