Land has been selected for the law college in Narendra Nagar. The land is located in Dagar, but uncertainty still surrounds the establishment of a National Law University in Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced the law college in Narendra Nagar. The announcement was made at the Shri Kanjapuri Tourism and Development Fair in October 2021.
According to Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal, land has been selected in Dagar for the law college. The land meets the required standards for the college. As soon as the proposal for the law college receives financial approval, construction will begin in the new year. However, uncertainty still persists regarding the establishment of a National Law University in Uttarakhand.
While Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, states formed at the same time as Uttarakhand, established National Law Universities in 2003 and 2010 respectively, Uttarakhand has yet to even finalize a location for one. Although the foundation stone was laid in March 2019 in Listrabad village of Ranipokhri, departmental officials say the access road is inadequate. It was reportedly initially planned for Nainital, but suitable land could not be found there either.
Foundation Stone Laid on 10 Acres of Land
The foundation stone for the law university was laid on 10 acres of land belonging to the Sericulture Department in Listrabad, Ranipokhri. After the foundation stone was laid, Rs. 50 lakh was sanctioned for initial work, but no further progress has been made. Meanwhile, the selection of the location has become a point of contention.
