The Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission chairperson, Kusum Kandwal, has taken suo motu cognizance of a sensational incident that occurred late Saturday night in the Shivaji Nagar area of Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. In this case, a 32-year-old woman, Preeti Rawat, a contractual employee at AIIMS Rishikesh, was shot dead in her home. The Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission has taken a strong stance on this heinous crime and has initiated action on its own accord. Commission chairperson Kusum Kandwal has directed the police to arrest the accused as soon as possible and take such stringent action against him that it sets an example for society.
According to the information received regarding the incident, Preeti Rawat, originally from Yamkeshwar, lived alone in a rented house in Shivaji Nagar, Rishikesh. The accused arrived at her house around 9:30 pm on Saturday night and shot her.
The Women’s Commission chairperson spoke to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Rishikesh, Kailash Chandra Bhatt, over the phone to gather information about the case. According to the facts, the case is related to a one-sided love affair and pressure to marry. She was informed that the accused was pressuring the deceased to marry him, and had even divorced his wife for this purpose. When the deceased refused to marry him and did not comply with his demands, he committed this horrific crime and fled the scene.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission chairperson Kusum Kandwal spoke to the SHO of Rishikesh and obtained a report on the progress of the investigation so far. She stated that such increasing crimes against women in Devbhoomi (Uttarakhand) are completely unacceptable. The chairperson has directed the police teams to intensify their search for the accused and ensure that the victim’s family receives swift justice.
SHO Kailash Chandra Bhatt of Rishikesh Police Station informed that evidence has been collected from the crime scene, and several police teams are conducting raids at possible locations to apprehend the absconding accused. He assured that the accused will be arrested soon.
