Nainital: The Dhami government of Uttarakhand has been taking action against illegal madrasas for some time now. Hundreds of illegal madrasas have been sealed in the state. In Haridwar too, after verification, the police-administration sealed many such madrasas which were running without registration. Public interest litigations were filed in the Uttarakhand High Court regarding this action of the police-administration, which were heard on Tuesday, July 29.
The case was heard in a single bench of Justice Ravindra Maithani. The High Court has told the madrasas that they will give an affidavit to the District Minority Welfare Officer to the effect that until they are recognized by the government, they will not do any religious, teaching and namaz work in the madrasas. The state government will decide what will be opened in these, till then the madrasas will not open.
According to the case, Haridwar’s Madrasa Jamia Rajbia Faizul Quran, Madrasa Darul Quran, Madrasa Nurhuda Education Trust, Madrasa Sirajul Quran Arabia Rasdia Society and Darulullam Sabriya Sirajia Society had filed petitions in the Uttarakhand High Court.
All of them had told the Uttarakhand High Court in their petition that the district administration has sealed many madrasas without following the rules, while educational institutions were running in their madrasas. They have also applied for registration of madrasas, but due to the board not sitting, their registration is not being done. The seal should be removed until the registration is done. On the other hand, this demand of the petitioners was opposed by the Uttarakhand government.
The government said in the Uttarakhand High Court that the madrasas that have been sealed are running illegally. They are not registered. Teaching, religious rituals and namaz are also being done in them. All these are being run by some particular person or others. Therefore, they were sealed.
It has been clarified in the High Court by the Uttarakhand government that the madrasas which were registered have not been sealed by the administration. They are also getting the grants from the government. No grants are being given to illegal madrasas. Let us tell you that CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has said many times in his statements that the campaign against encroachment and illegal madrasas will continue inside Uttarakhand. Apart from this, CM Dhami had also talked about conducting an investigation to find out the source of funding of illegal madrasas.
It is worth noting that the Congress had also opposed the action being taken against illegal madrasas. The Congress alleged that the government was taking action against madrasas to remain in the headlines.
