In the first phase of the three-tier panchayat elections, 5823 polling stations have been set up under a total of 4679 polling stations. These include 1521 sensitive and 533 hypersensitive polling stations. More than 18 thousand police and other forces personnel will be deployed for the security of the polling. This information was given by DGP Deepam Seth on Tuesday after reviewing the security arrangements for the three-tier panchayat elections. He instructed the officials to conduct safe polling. The DGP has also instructed the SDRF to be extra vigilant during the rainy season.
The DGP held a meeting with top police officials on Monday. The district police in-charge was present through video conferencing. The DGP told the officials that the Kanwar Yatra has reached its final stage. In such a situation, the police force deployed in Haridwar and surrounding areas should be prepared for election duty. They should be asked to report on time to the designated duty location. He asked for strict action against those who are negligent in following the model code of conduct. Also said that coordination should be established with the district administration for quick resolution of the issue from where information of election boycott is coming
Immediate action should be taken on misleading messages while monitoring social media. Along with this, sensitive and hypersensitive booths should be inspected on time. DGP asked the district police in-charge to inspect the hypersensitive booths himself. He instructed to take cognizance of every small incident and information and take immediate action on them. During this, the district police in-charges also gave information about the action taken so far in the districts. Nodal officer of three-tier panchayat elections IG Dr. Nilesh Anand Bharne, IG Intelligence Karan Singh Nagnyal, IG SDRF Arun Mohan Joshi, IG Personnel Dr. Yogendra Singh Rawat etc. were present in the meeting.
More than 21 thousand liters of liquor seized
DGP said that since the implementation of the code of conduct for three-tier panchayat elections, the police has seized 21 thousand liters of liquor. Apart from this, 145 kg of narcotics were seized. Their estimated value is Rs 13.70 crore. A total of 20,288 people were challaned in 2778 cases, out of which 7,682 people have been bound by bond.
