A Sikh devotee died after falling into a ditch at Jungle Chatti, two km ahead of Pulna on the Hemkund Sahib Yatra route. As soon as the information was received, the Govindghat police and SDRF team reached the spot and took out the body. After preparing the Panchayatnama of the body, it has been sent to Joshimath mortuary for postmortem.
On Sunday, while going to Hemkund Sahib, Gurpreet Singh (18), son of Hardeep Singh, resident of village Kale, police station Siharta, tehsil and district Amritsar (Punjab) was going on the pilgrimage. He was part of a group of 90 people. Police station in-charge Govind Ghat Vinod Rawat said that near Jungle Chatti on the Hemkund Sahib Yatra route, Gurpreet Singh left the main footpath and used the old and damaged shortcut.
He crossed the railing and went to the route, which was already closed due to security reasons. During this, he slipped and fell into a deep ditch. As soon as the information was received, the police, SDRF and other relief teams reached the spot and after conducting a search operation, the body was taken out of the ditch. Despite the extremely difficult conditions and dangerous slopes, the team worked hard to bring him to the main road. After which he was immediately taken to the nearest hospital, where he was declared dead by the doctors.
