Out of 107 municipal bodies in Uttarakhand, only five have passed with one star in the Garbage Free City (GFC) category under the Swachhta Survey. The remaining 102 municipal bodies including Dehradun have failed miserably in making the city garbage free.
The data of the Swachhta Survey released on Thursday has revealed the layers of seriousness of Uttarakhand’s municipal bodies towards cleanliness. Starting from the largest Dehradun Municipal Corporation, most of the corporations have not been able to rid the cities of garbage heaps. This is being confirmed by the star rating of the GFC category. Last year, Dehradun Municipal Corporation had received three stars in GFC because the roadside dustbins were removed in the city. But this time, due to garbage heaps everywhere in the city, it could not get even one star.
This year, Nagar Panchayat Lalkuan, Municipal Corporation Rudrapur, Municipal Council Doiwala, Municipal Council Vikasnagar and Nagar Panchayat Nanakmatta have received one star rating in GFC. According to the standards, at least 40 percent work is required to be done in the garbage free city category for one star. These five bodies have made their cities at least 40 percent garbage free
