Uttarkashi: Under construction Silkyara-Polgaon tunnel on Yamunotri Highway crossed today. At the same time, a program of Pran-Pratishtha of Baba Bauknag temple built outside the tunnel was also organized. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the program. The construction of about 4.5 km long Silkyara-Polgaon tunnel started in the year 2018. In November 2023, 41 workers were trapped there due to debris inside the tunnel. They were evacuated safely under a 17-day and night search and rescue operation. After that the work there was stopped. Work started rapidly on the remaining 30 meters
After that, work was started again by NHIDCL in the middle of the year 2024 and the debris lying there was removed last month. After the removal of the debris, the working agency Navayuga Company started work rapidly on the remaining 30 meters of the tunnel to cross it.
Today on Wednesday, the Silkyara-Polgaon tunnel was crossed. The program was organized grandly by the district administration and NHIDCL. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was present there at the time of the breakthrough of the tunnel. At the same time, the workers of the company were also honored.
