Campaign to make Chardham Yatra single-use plastic free, CM Dhami sought cooperation
Uttarakhand Chardham Yatra 2025 will start from 30 April. The local district administration, including drinking water, electricity, health, is busy in its preparations for the Yatra. All preparations are almost complete. The special thing is that a lot of enthusiasm is being seen among the devotees regarding the Chardham Yatra. So far, more than 10 lakh devotees have registered online for the Chardham Yatra. At the same time, applications are continuously coming in the Transport Department for making green and trip cards for vehicles going on the journey. At the same time, CM Dhami has started a new initiative regarding this Chardham Yatra.
CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that, ‘This time we are preparing with the resolve of Green Chardham Yatra. Our effort is that not only the pilgrims get pure food and clean environment. But due to the journey, the problem of single use plastic should not arise at our holy pilgrimage sites. We are working on the principle of reducing, reusing and recycling single-use plastic’
According to CM Dhami, the Food Safety Drug Administration Department has started a wide-scale dialogue and training program with the hotels and food traders of the Yatra route even before the start of the Yatra regarding the problem of single-use plastic. CM Dhami further said that in this we need the cooperation of everyone from pilgrims-food traders to local people.
It is worth noting that from the beginning of the Yatra to the end of the Yatra, a lot of garbage gets accumulated on the Chardham and related routes. Which proves to be dangerous for the environment and climate of the Himalayas. PM Modi has also put forth his point on this issue through the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program and has also appealed to the people not to leave garbage in the Himalayan region. The state government also runs a scheme from time to time regarding the problem of single-use plastic. This is the reason that this time also the state government has made preparations with the resolution of Green Chardham Yatra.
