Dehradun District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan has given strict instructions to the officials to effectively stop single-use plastic and unauthorized dumping in the district. In the review meeting, he made it clear that the action should not be limited to campaigns only, but the entire network of production, storage, supply and distribution of plastic should be demolished.
The State Tax Department has been instructed to conduct on-site inspection of the concerned industrial units and submit reports on raw materials, stocks and production capacity. All SDMs have been asked to identify bulk waste generators and unauthorized dumping sites and ensure immediate disposal of plastic waste. Challans will be issued to those throwing garbage at unauthorized sites.
The DM stressed on intensive checking, public awareness and promotion of alternative products in all 100 wards of the Municipal Corporation. Also, while calling for the report on the operation of compactor machines, instructions were given to take punitive action on wrong site selection in Kalsi.
