Female students will receive 50% representation in student union elections held at government colleges and universities in Uttarakhand. Expressing displeasure over the delay in implementing this decision during a departmental review meeting, Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat issued strict instructions to officials to submit the proposal to the government within three days.
Key Points:
โข Promoting Women’s Leadership: Female students constitute over 65% of the student body in the state’s higher education institutions. The Minister stated that 50% participation would boost the confidence of female students and enable them to effectively voice their concerns.
โข Election Dates: Vice-Chancellors have been directed to make necessary amendments to the student union structure and announce election dates soon.
โข ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ (Service Pledge Campaign): A campaign will be conducted across all higher education institutions from September 17 to October 17, featuring speech, essay, and painting competitions, as well as youth dialogues.
