District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan has issued strict directives to strengthen the solid waste management system in Dehradun. During a meeting convened to ensure strict adherence to Supreme Court guidelines, he emphasized the need to fix accountability among officials and agencies.
• FIR for dumping waste in rivers: The DM directed that FIRs be immediately registered against those dumping waste into rivers or along their banks. Security and surveillance at vulnerable riverbanks will be enhanced through the installation of mesh fencing.
• Curbing unauthorized dumping: Civic bodies have been instructed to immediately identify unauthorized dumping sites and take action against the responsible agencies.
• Identification of bulk waste generators: Hotels, malls, and large institutions (bulk waste generators) will be identified, and the segregation and disposal of wet and dry waste will be made mandatory for them. Septic tankers will be monitored to ensure that sewage is treated exclusively through Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs)
