The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) has launched a comprehensive campaign in the capital, Dehradun, to curb adulteration and ensure the quality of milk, paneer, and other dairy products. Following strict directives from FDA Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey, departmental teams conducted surprise inspections of various hotels, restaurants, and dairy establishments across the city.
During the campaign, teams led by Additional Commissioner Tajbar Singh Jaggi and other officials meticulously inspected the kitchens and storage areas of Hotel Madhuban, JSR, and Sarovar Portico. A notice was issued to the manufacturer after the labeling of packaged tamarind at Hotel Madhuban was found non-compliant with standards; samples of prepared *dal* (lentils) and cheese were also collected. Three restaurants—Rajiv (son of Shri Darvari Lal), Garhwal Bhojanalaya, and Lazeez Kathi Roll—were shut down on the spot after serious irregularities and gross unhygienic conditions were discovered during inspections in the Rajpur Road area and other localities.
Additionally, a team led by Senior Food Safety Officer Ramesh Singh collected samples of milk and paneer suspected of adulteration from dairy establishments in the Nehru Gram and Chhe Number Puliya areas and sent them for laboratory testing. The department has made it clear that there will be no compromise on the purity of food products and that this campaign against adulterators will continue. Several senior officials, including Garhwal Division Deputy Commissioner Rajendra Rawat and Assistant Commissioner Manish Sayana, were present throughout the operation.
