The Inspector General of Police of Garhwal Zone has given strict instructions to the officials while conducting a detailed review of the security, traffic management and devotee facilities of the holy Kanwar Mela-2026. This fair, which started from July 30, will continue till August 11, 2026, in which special caution is being taken in view of Dak Kanwar from August 8 to 11 and Main Jalabhishek on August 11.
Key Points:
• Passenger numbers: Till now, more than 76,85,000 Kanwar passengers have moved from Haridwar and 5,72,910 from Neelkanth.
• Security deployment: The entire fair area has been divided into 22 super zones, 67 zones and 200 sectors. Paramilitary forces, ATS, BDS, SDRF and water police are deployed along with civil police.
• Technology and surveillance: 10 zones for drone surveillance have been installed in Haridwar and 4 additional drones have been installed in Neelkanth-Rishikesh. 24-hour surveillance is being done by more than 529 CCTV cameras from the Chardham control room.
• Rescue operations: SDRF and water police have saved 18 passengers from drowning, while Khoya-Paya Cell has reunited 20 missing people with their families.
• Rules: For safety reasons, the maximum height of the walking procession has been fixed at 6 feet and the height of the tableau has been fixed at 10 feet.
