On the occasion of the holy Kanwar Yatra, the five-day ‘Samman Setu Abhiyan’—a women’s awareness and health camp—was grandly inaugurated at the premises of Seema Dental College on AIIMS Road in the pilgrimage city of Rishikesh. The event was organized under the joint aegis of the National Commission for Women and the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women.
The camp was inaugurated through the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, and Kusum Kandwal, Chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women, in the presence of Rishikesh Mayor Shambhu Paswan and other dignitaries.
Key highlights and objectives of the camp:
• Awareness and Safety: Raising awareness among female pilgrims visiting from across the country and abroad, as well as local residents, regarding women’s safety, legal rights, cybersecurity, and the POSH Act.
• Free Health Services: Specialist doctors from AIIMS Rishikesh conducted free health check-ups for hundreds of women and distributed medicines.
• Legal and Counseling Support: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) provided free legal advice, psychosocial counseling, and information on protection against cybercrime.
The Chairpersons emphasized that true empowerment of women is possible only through awareness. This camp will continue to operate from August 4 to August 8, 2026, providing uninterrupted services related to health, legal aid, and a women’s help desk.
