A crucial meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was held at the Rishiparna Auditorium in Dehradun, chaired by District Magistrate (DM) Dr. Ashish Chauhan. The DM issued strict directives to officials to effectively curb road accidents and ensure a safe traffic environment.
Key highlights of the meeting:
• Black Spot Remediation: Instructions were issued to conduct a detailed survey of all identified ‘black spots’ and accident-prone areas in the district, immediately prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), and commence remedial work.
• Road Repair and Drainage: Immediate repair of potholes caused by rains and strengthening of drainage systems to prevent waterlogging in urban areas. Orders were issued to the NHAI to expedite safety works on the Dehradun-Delhi Expressway and immediately close unauthorized median crossings.
• Strict Enforcement: A ‘zero-tolerance’ policy regarding overloading, unfit vehicles, and drunk driving, particularly in hilly areas. The Transport Department was directed to launch special drives and take stringent action.
• Public Awareness and School Vehicles: Directives were issued to conduct extensive public awareness campaigns regarding traffic rules and to regularly inspect the documentation and fitness of all school vehicles.
The DM emphasized that the progress of road safety initiatives would be reviewed monthly to ensure accidents are effectively prevented.
