The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha staged a fierce protest in Dehradun today coinciding with the arrival of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Led by State President Ruchi Bhatt, thousands of women gathered at CMI Chowk and raised slogans against the Congress party’s “anti-women mindset.” State General Secretary of the Mahila Morcha, Himani Vaishnav, along with a state minister and other senior office-bearers, were also present during the event.
The protest centered primarily on the Congress party’s opposition to the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ (Women’s Reservation Bill) in Parliament. Ruchi Bhatt stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has granted women a historic right to political participation, whereas the Congress has consistently displayed a double standard regarding issues of women’s empowerment. She asserted that the women of ‘Devbhoomi’ (the Land of Gods) would not tolerate any politicization of the issue of women’s dignity.
During the demonstration, the activists challenged the police barricades at CMI Chowk and voiced their message peacefully. Eventually, the police administration took the protesting women activists into custody. The BJP Mahila Morcha warned that the Congress needs to introspect on its history of being anti-women. The protest served as a demonstration of the solidarity among women across the state and their unwavering faith in the Prime Minister’s leadership
