The Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has launched a major campaign against unplanned development and illegal plotting in the city. Taking extensive action across the Mussoorie, Thano, Ranipokhari, Premnagar, and Shimla Bypass areas, the authority has demolished illegal colonies and structures being developed on over 170 *bighas* of land.
Key highlights of the action:
• Major Demolitions: A massive illegal plotting project spanning 100–150 *bighas* by Purushottam Mamgain in Pelio Ganeshpur and an illegal colony covering 50 *bighas* in Ranipokhari were demolished. Additionally, bulldozers were used against illegal plotting on 2 *bighas* of land in the Thano area.
• Sealing: Commercial constructions violating regulations were sealed; these included a project being built beneath a high-tension power line in Premnagar and a commercial project in Mussoorie.
• Strict Directives: MDDA Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari clarified that development must strictly adhere to regulations. He appealed to the public to verify the legal status and MDDA approval of any property before investing in it.
Secretary Mohan Singh Barnia stated that illegal activities within the authority’s jurisdiction are being continuously monitored, and such strict enforcement actions will continue in the future
