The construction of Uttarakhand’s first sports university has achieved a major administrative milestone. The Ministry of Forests, Government of India, has granted final approval for the diversion of 12.317 hectares of forest land for the sports university project.
According to the order issued in this regard, approval has been granted for the transfer of forest land for the proposed sports university project located in the Golapar area, under the Haldwani Forest Division of Nainital district.
Expressing her delight over this approval, the State Sports Minister, Rekha Arya, stated that this marks a historic achievement for the future of sports in Uttarakhand. She noted that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state government has been consistently working towards strengthening sports infrastructure and providing world-class facilities to the youth.
The Sports Minister emphasized that the sports university will not merely be an academic institution; rather, it will emerge as a premier hub for modern training, sports science, research, and high-caliber coaching facilities for the state’s athletes. This will open up enhanced opportunities for the youth of Uttarakhand at both national and international levels.
She further stated that the state government’s objective is to establish Uttarakhand as a “Sports Hub” (*Khelbhumi*), and this university is set to prove a significant milestone in achieving this goal.
Expressing her gratitude to the Chief Minister, Sports Minister Rekha Arya remarked that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami pursued this entire matter with utmost diligence and seriousness, which ultimately paved the way for this success.
Extending her appreciation to the Central Government and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Rekha Arya affirmed that this approval will accelerate the construction work of the project, and the people of the state will soon receive the gift of a world-class sports university.
