Weather conditions in Uttarakhand remain adverse today. A warning for heavy rainfall and snowfall has been issued for parts of Uttarakhand’s hilly regions for Friday. Additionally, winds gusting at speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour are also forecast.
Meanwhile, a sudden warning message from the Meteorological Department appearing on people’s mobile phones has created a stir in the region. Through this message, people were advised to remain alert while being informed of potential changes in the weather.
In fact, the weather across the state has been erratic for the past few days. Uttarakhand has been experiencing continuous rainfall since last Thursday. It is anticipated that weather conditions will undergo a shift in several of the state’s hilly and plain districts over the next 24 hours. According to a Presidential Alert message disseminated via mobile phones, high-altitude regions of the state (at 3,000 meters and above) may experience snowfall, while lower-lying areas could face rain and thunderstorms.
The alert indicates a possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds in isolated pockets of the Bageshwar, Chamoli, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Champawat, and Uttarkashi districts. Meanwhile, snowfall is forecast for the higher Himalayan regions. This message was transmitted via the Cell Broadcast System—a transmission which officials have clarified was merely a test message. The objective is to assess the effectiveness of the disaster management and warning systems, thereby ensuring that timely information can be conveyed to the general public during any future emergency. Experts have appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions, exercise caution in high-altitude areas, and stay away from open spaces during lightning strikes.
