Dehradun: Janardhan Binjola, a teacher at the Jagat Jeevan Jyoti Peeth—located within the jurisdiction of the Nehru Colony Police Station—has been convicted in a case involving the rape of a teenage girl. The bench of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajni Shukla sentenced the convict to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. Additionally, a fine of ₹50,000 was imposed.
The institution maintained its own hostel, where the victim—the daughter of a staff member—resided. Janardhan Binjola raped the girl on multiple occasions. She revealed this only after a period of one and a half years—on July 23, 2021—when another victim filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Binjola, the institution’s administrator, alleging rape. Following the revelation of this incident, her parents asked her if she, too, had been subjected to such abuse; she immediately broke down in sobs and recounted the entire horrific ordeal.
**Molestation of Private Parts and Rape**
The teenager testified that all the girls at the institution used to address Janardhan Binjola as “Papa.” One day, he claimed to be suffering from a headache and asked her to sleep in his room. Trusting his words, she slept there. During the night, he molested her private parts and raped her. When she complained about this to Aparna, she was instructed to remain silent.
Subsequently, these acts of brutality were repeated numerous times over a period of one and a half years. Whenever the girls spoke to their mothers over the phone, the calls were kept on speaker mode, and they were prevented from speaking to their mothers in private. They were also subjected to death threats. In this case, the court has sentenced Janardhan to 20 years of imprisonment, while ordering the release of the other accused, Aparna (alias Dopi), after the payment of a fine.
**Sentencing in a Similar Case on February 28**
Janardhan Binjola had already been sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment on February 28 in a separate, similar case. Now, the court has once again handed down a sentence for the brutal abuse of a different teenage girl. In the previous case as well, the victim had leveled allegations of rape against him.
