The weather in Uttarakhand took a turn today, bringing rain from the mountains down to the plains. The rainfall led to a significant drop in temperatures in the capital, Dehradun (Doon), and in Mussoorie. Meanwhile, Kedarnath also witnessed snowfall.
A warning regarding stormy winds has been issued for today, covering both the hilly regions and certain parts of the plains. However, the weather is expected to remain dry in other areas. According to the forecast released by the Meteorological Centre, an ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for March 15, warning of strong winds gusting at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in certain pockets of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts.
Additionally, a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for strong winds in parts of several districts—including Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, and Champawat. In the hilly regions, there is a possibility of isolated lightning strikes and spells of heavy rain, with hailstorms also being forecast. According to meteorologists, maximum temperatures across the state could witness a decline of 3 to 5 degrees over the next four to five days.
