New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat today. He will inaugurate Micron Semiconductor Technology India Private Limited’s semiconductor assembly, test, and packaging (ATMP) facility in Sanand. He will also address the gathering.
According to an official press release issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, “This inauguration marks a significant milestone in India’s semiconductor manufacturing journey. It marks the commencement of commercial production and shipment of the first Made-in-India semiconductor memory module from the Sanand ATMP facility. This development is a major step towards strengthening India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain.”
This project, whose groundbreaking ceremony took place in September 2023, was the first proposal approved under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). With a total expenditure of over โน22,500 crore, construction began immediately after approval, demonstrating the government’s commitment to rapidly advance strategic semiconductor investment in the country.
When fully completed, the Sanand facility will have approximately 500,000 square feet of cleanroom space, making it one of the largest raised-floor cleanrooms in the world. The facility is designed to serve customers worldwide and meet the growing global demand for memory and storage solutions driven by rapid advances in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.
The Sanand ATMP facility will convert advanced dynamic random access memory (DRAM) and NAND semiconductor wafers from Micron’s global manufacturing network into finished memory and storage products, serving customers in the global market.
“The construction and commissioning of this facility demonstrates India’s emergence as a reliable and competitive destination for semiconductor manufacturing and is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of building a strong and self-reliant technology ecosystem in the country,” the release said.
