In the state’s government schools, 90% of principal positions and 93% of headmaster positions are vacant. Furthermore, there is a shortage of administrative officers within the department. This is why one officer has three responsibilities. The retirement of 14 officers, including two directors, this year could further exacerbate the problem.
In the state’s government inter colleges, 1250 out of 1385 principal positions are vacant. The same is true for government high schools, where 850 out of 910 positions are without headmasters. The department also faces a shortage of administrative officers. Consequently, Additional Director Garhwal Kanchan Devradi holds the charge of Additional Director Secondary Education as well as Additional Director Basic Education.
In the Kumaon Division, Gajendra Singh Saun holds the charge of Additional Director Secondary Education, Kumaon Division, and Additional Director Basic Education. Meanwhile, Additional Director Padmanand Saklani holds three responsibilities. He serves as Additional Director Elementary Education, Additional Director SCERT, and Additional Director Directorate General of Education.
