A separate integrated portal will be created for the complaints of people who were victims of fraud by the LUCC company. Victims will be able to file their complaints and claims on this portal. The CBI had written to the government regarding this matter on January 14th, following which Secretary Dilip Jawalkar has written to the Cooperative Department to take further action.
It is noteworthy that the chit fund company LUCC had opened branches in several districts of the state. Hundreds of agents were appointed to collect investments from people. People deposited money in this company in the form of small savings through recurring deposits (RD) and fixed deposits (FD). โโIn June 2024, it was discovered that the LUCC company’s offices had started closing down.
The amount of the fraud is estimated to be hundreds of crores of rupees.
People pressured the agents, but no solution was found. Following this, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Kotdwar police station in Pauri district based on a complaint from a woman. Subsequently, a total of 18 cases were registered in various districts. The amount of the fraud is estimated to be hundreds of crores of rupees. The police handed over the investigation of this case to the CID, which also filed a charge sheet in court.
Meanwhile, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the High Court by an individual. The court ordered the case to be handed over to the CBI for investigation. The CBI registered an FIR at its Dehradun branch on November 27th. The Kotdwar FIR was used as the basis, and the remaining 17 FIRs were added to it. The CBI’s investigation so far has revealed that this company has defrauded approximately 1.5 lakh people in the name of investment.
The total amount of the fraud is estimated to be around 800 crore rupees. Therefore, the CBI wrote to the government stating that an integrated platform is necessary to contact these people. The CBI has requested the launch of an integrated portal for complaints and claims. The portal (website) will be launched soon on the instructions of the government.
