New Delhi: Nitin Naveen, the new national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), formally assumed office on Tuesday. He became the 12th national president of the BJP and, at the age of 45, holds the distinction of being the youngest president of the party. He succeeded Jagat Prakash Nadda in this position.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several senior party leaders attended Nitin Naveen’s ‘coronation’ ceremony. On this occasion, PM Modi welcomed the new BJP president, saying, “Nitin Naveen is my boss, I am a worker.” He said that Nitin Naveen’s youthful energy and dedication to the organization will strengthen the party. Referring to the party’s historical strength, Prime Minister Modi said that the BJP is today the world’s largest political party – with 240 Lok Sabha seats and governments in several states. Prime Minister Modi described Nitin Naveen as a “representative of the new generation” and said that the new president will further strengthen the party.
Taking a dig at the Congress, PM Modi said that the opposition should take responsibility for its own decline, while the BJP remains steadfast on the path of development and service. On this occasion, the PM appealed to the party workers to further expand the organization under Nitin Naveen’s leadership, especially for the upcoming elections. It is worth noting that the nomination process for the BJP national president post was completed on January 19, in which only Nitin Naveen’s name was proposed. There was no other candidate, so he was elected unopposed. On Tuesday, January 20, Nitin Naveen was declared elected as the president at a ceremony at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. The party’s national returning officer, Dr. K. Laxman, announced the election results and handed over the certificate.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, former BJP president JP Nadda, Nitin Gadkari, and several other Union ministers and senior leaders were present on this occasion. PM Modi welcomed Nitin Naveen by garlanding him. Speaking to ETV Bharat on this occasion, Union Minister CR Patil said that his party is constantly reaching new heights, and the new president is young and energetic, and under his leadership, the party will scale even greater heights. He said that the BJP faces no challenge in any state, and in the states where elections are due in the coming days, the party will win under the leadership of the new president. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who was present at the event, said that he had worked with the new BJP president, Nitin Nabin, in the youth wing and had participated in a march for the party all the way to Kashmir, during which he was constantly with him. In a conversation with ETV Bharat, he said that Nitin Nabin is a very level-headed and grounded leader. On this occasion, Union Minister SP Baghel, speaking to ETV Bharat, said that no election is a challenge for his party anymore. Responding to a question about the Samajwadi Party putting up posters of Akhilesh Yadav, portraying him as the captain for the next elections in Uttar Pradesh, Baghel quipped, “What kind of ship is Akhilesh Yadav captaining – a real ship or a paper one?” He added that in the coming days, whether it’s the elections in West Bengal, Punjab, or Uttar Pradesh, the BJP will come to power, regardless of the claims made by other parties.
