New Delhi: Nitin Naveen has filed his nomination for the election of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s national president. Earlier, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari became proposers for the national president’s election. The announcement of the new BJP national president will be made tomorrow, Tuesday. Before this, all the Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, senior leaders, and many others were present at the party office.
It is expected that BJP’s National Working President Nitin Naveen will be elected unopposed as the party’s 12th national president. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, along with the party leadership, are supporting his candidature for the post.
According to the election schedule announced by BJP’s National Returning Officer K. Laxman, nominations for this post will be filed between 2 PM and 4 PM on Monday, and the name of the new party chief will be announced the day after the completion of the election process. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done between 4 PM and 5 PM on January 19. Nominations can be withdrawn between 5 PM and 6 PM today.
A BJP source told PTI, “Almost all our Chief Ministers will be present on this occasion. In addition, all the BJP state unit presidents and other senior party leaders will also be present here.” Naveen, a five-time MLA from Bihar and recently appointed as the BJP’s National Working President, will submit his nomination for the party’s National President post on Monday. The BJP National President is elected by an electoral college comprising representatives from the party’s National Council and State Councils, and this process is overseen by the party’s National Returning Officer. According to the BJP constitution, any 20 members of the electoral college from a state can propose the name of a person for the post of National President, provided that the person has been an active member for four terms and has fifteen years of membership. However, such a joint proposal must come from at least five states where the National Council elections have been completed. While releasing the election schedule on Friday, the party’s national returning officer, K. Laxman, had said, “If necessary, polling will be held on January 20, and the name of the new BJP national president will be officially announced on the same day.”
