A horrific road accident occurred in the Mohbbewala area around 8:30 am on Friday morning when a speeding truck coming from Mohand hit six vehicles and ended up stuck in a roadside drain with one of its tires. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the accident. Several shops were also damaged.
The cement-laden truck was entering Dehradun at high speed via the expressway when it went out of control and hit six vehicles, including three or four cars and a Vikram tempo, causing panic in the area. Diesel began to flow as the truck fell to one side into the drain, threatening to cause a major fire. Police and traffic personnel arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area, clearing the traffic and crowds. A fire brigade vehicle was called to the scene, only then was the danger averted. The road was cleared for traffic in approximately two and a half hours.
Drowsiness and high speed were the main causes of the accident.
Upon receiving information about the incident, CO Sadar Ankit Kandari, officers from nearby police stations, and traffic police officers also arrived. The truck driver told police that he was dozing off when he saw a truck backing up from the front, causing him to lose control.
After losing control, one of the truck’s wheels went into a roadside drain and tilted to one side, damaging the drain wall. The fire brigade immediately conducted rescue operations to prevent a possible fire. SP Traffic Lokjeet Singh stated that upon receiving information about the incident, traffic officials were immediately dispatched to the scene and the roads were immediately cleared.
Mohabbewala: A Hotspot for Accidents at the Expressway Entry Point
This area has become a dangerous hotspot due to frequent road accidents. This area is especially risky for vehicles entering Dehradun at high speeds via the expressway. According to local residents and traffic police, speeding vehicles lose control upon entering Dehradun city, often causing harm to smaller vehicles and local residents. Over the past year and a half, more than half a dozen major accidents have occurred in this area, resulting in numerous deaths and dozens of injuries.
