New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India next month at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to reports, Putin is coming to India to attend the 23rd India-Russia Summit. Russian state news agencies have confirmed this news, citing the Kremlin. India’s Ministry of External Affairs has also issued a statement in this regard.
According to reports, Putin’s visit to India will be a two-day visit from December 4 to 5, 2025. Putin will also hold bilateral talks with PM Modi. President Draupadi Murmu will also meet with the Russian President and host a state banquet in his honor. Putin’s visit to India is considered significant because US President Donald Trump has imposed heavy tariffs on both countries. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that the progress of bilateral relations between India and Russia will be reviewed and the two countries will chart a new course for the next phase of mutual cooperation. Officials also stated that the two leaders will discuss regional and international issues. The leaders of both countries will also sign several agreements to strengthen their mutual relations.
The Russian President’s visit to India comes at a time when India’s relations with Western countries have deteriorated since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. India has purchased oil from Russia at a low price. In August, US President Donald Trump imposed a 50% tariff on most Indian imports and accused India of funding Russia’s war.
The two leaders met in China
Earlier this year, PM Modi and Vladimir Putin met in China at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. The two leaders traveled in the same car.
