Dehradun: On Monday, marking the 25th anniversary of Uttarakhand’s founding, President Draupadi Murmu addressed a special session of the Legislative Assembly. In her address, President Draupadi Murmu emphasized the role of women. She specifically mentioned hockey player Vandana Kataria and social activist Sushila Baluni. She also congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team on winning the World Cup.
President Draupadi Murmu addressed a special session of the Legislative Assembly: On the occasion of the silver jubilee celebrations of Uttarakhand’s Statehood Day, President Draupadi Murmu arrived in the capital Dehradun to address the Legislative Assembly. The Assembly was a unique sight. All the MLAs arrived wearing their Pahari caps. In her address, the President made several important points, but her primary focus was on women. President’s focus on women: President Draupadi Murmu said she was deeply pleased to learn that women have played a significant role in the state’s development and progress. Citing some prominent women from Uttarakhand, she said the state has achieved remarkable work in the field of women’s empowerment. She said:
Vandana Kataria, a star player for the Indian women’s hockey team, Bachendri Pal, India’s first female mountaineer to climb Mount Everest, and Sushila Baluni, who brought glory to the state in the fields of education and social service, all of their achievements are an inspiration for future generations. Looking at these women, more women will rise and do much for the state.

Equal number of women in the Legislative Assembly: The President made another important point in her speech. She said she hopes that in the coming days, women’s participation in the Legislative Assembly will be equal to that of men. Whenever the President addressed the Assembly on women’s issues, all the members of the Assembly applauded her words.
President congratulates world champion women’s cricket team: During her speech, President Draupadi Murmu also congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team from the Uttarakhand Assembly. She said that today, women are making their mark not only in India but across the world. Our daughters have made history by winning the Cricket World Cup. She added that there are as many women in the country as there are men. Therefore, giving women equal attention is the need of the hour.
