Amaravati: A shocking revelation has emerged during the investigation of the Kurnool bus accident. A preliminary investigation by the forensic team found that a large number of smartphones were kept in the luggage cabin of the bus, which caused a massive explosion. As a result, the fire spread further. In this accident, 19 passengers died tragically.
The forensic team, in a preliminary investigation, found that hundreds of mobile phones were kept in the luggage cabin of the Vemuri Kaveri travel bus that caught fire near Chinnatekur on the outskirts of Kurnool. The explosion caused the fire to flare up even more. This caused a huge loss of life. First, as soon as the bus hit the two-wheeler, the lid of its oil tank broke and the petrol started leaking.
During this time, the two-wheeler got stuck under the bus and the bus dragged him some distance away. In the meantime, sparks came out and then the petrol caught fire. This first caused a fire in the luggage cabin. More than 400 smartphones were kept in the parcel. Due to the intense heat, the phone’s batteries burst. The fire broke out and spread to the top of the luggage cabin.
As a result, the seats just above the luggage cabin and the people sitting on the berth did not have time to escape. The forensic team investigating the scene and the burnt bus said that is the reason why most of the people sitting in the front seats and berths of the bus lost their lives.
Loud sound from bursting battery
There was a loud noise when the smartphone’s batteries started exploding together in the cabin where the luggage was kept. The driver stopped the bus, got out of the window next to his seat and fled, leaving the passengers trapped in the bus. The bus was already engulfed in thick smoke and flames. Although passengers trapped inside the bus tried to get out, their efforts were in vain as the emergency gate on the right side did not open.
Goods were being carried against the rules
No luggage other than your personal belongings should be transported in passenger vehicles. But owners of private travel buses are using passenger vehicles to carry luggage. They carry commercial goods by simply placing them in the cabin. In the event of an accident, a fire increases the severity of the accident.
Even in the Kurnool incident, it was initially found that the reason for the severity of the accident was the explosion of the mobile phone. Usually the top of the mobile phone is made of plastic and the batteries are made of lithium. Plastic burns in a few seconds. If the lithium catches fire, it bursts. Knowing this, keeping them in passenger vehicles became the main cause of such a huge loss of life.
