Mysore: The police has arrested a man in connection with the rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl who came with her family to sell balloons and other items during Dussehra in Mysore, Karnataka. When the accused was being brought to Mysore for further interrogation, he tried to escape and was shot in the leg by the police. The injured accused has been admitted to KR hospital, police said.
After arresting the accused Karthik from Kollegal in Chamrajnagar district, the police brought him to Mysore and conducted preliminary interrogation, officials said. Later, the police took him to his hometown Siddhalingpura for further questioning and were returning. Meanwhile, he tried to escape near Metagalli and was shot in the right leg by the police. Two policemen were also injured in the operation. He is also undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The body of the girl was found near the shed.
Eight members of a family were sleeping in a shed on Wednesday night. At the same time, the 9-year-old girl who was with them went missing, which the family came to know on Thursday morning and started searching for her. The body of the girl was later found near the shed. The girl’s parents had complained that someone had kidnapped their daughter in the night, raped her and then killed her. He demanded legal action in the matter.
Based on the complaint, the local police registered a case under the POCSO Act in this regard and started searching for the accused. On the basis of CCTV footage and technical evidence, the accused Karthik was arrested from Kollegal.
According to the police, about 50 families had come to Mysore from Kalburgi to sell balloons and other small items during the Dussehra festival. He had built temporary sheds near popular Dussehra sites such as Mysore Palace, exhibition grounds, Chamundi Hill, Devraj Urs Road and Devraj Market.

When he was being brought in, he tried to attack the police personnel. However, the police warned him, but he still picked up the bottle he was there and attacked the police. At this time, the police fired in the air to warn him again. When the accused did not listen to her, he was shot in the leg.
