Preparations are underway to open two new universities in the state. According to Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, a skill-based university and a residential university for students from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential Schools will be opened. A proposal for this will be presented in the cabinet.
According to the Higher Education Department, the state currently has five state universities and 118 affiliated colleges. There are also 26 private universities, 244 private colleges, and 21 non-government colleges. In addition, there are three technical institutes and one Ayurvedic medical institute. Two more universities are proposed to be opened.
The newly opened skill-based university will offer 25 vocational courses, providing employment opportunities for youth. The residential university will be for students from the Secondary Education Department’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential Schools and other underprivileged children. The establishment of the residential university will enable these children to pursue higher education
