Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party will bet on politicians as well as celebrities this time to win more and more seats in the Bihar Assembly elections 2025. Under this, the name of the famous folk singer Maithili Thakur, who comes from Mithilanchal, is in full swing. BJP in-charge Vinod Tawde has also given clear indications of this by sharing a picture after meeting him.
Maithili Thakur and his father Ramesh Thakur met BJP’s Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde and Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai on Sunday. Sharing the picture, Tawde said that after the arrival of Lalu Raj in 1995, the family who left Bihar, the daughter of that family and Maithili folk singer Maithili Thakur now wants to return home after seeing the pace of changing Bihar.
Vinod Tawde further said that he and Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai have requested Maithili Thakur to come forward for the people of Bihar and the development of Bihar. Every common man in the state expects you, so meet their expectations. The BJP in-charge also wished the folk singer good luck for the future.
“When Lalu Raj came to Bihar in the year 1995, the well-known singer Maithili Thakur ji, the daughter of the family who left Bihar, wants to come to Bihar again after seeing the pace of changing Bihar. Nityanand Raj ji and I urged him that his contribution to the people of Bihar and for the development of Bihar is expected by the common man of Bihar and he should fulfill his expectations.” – Vinod Tawde, In-charge, Bihar BJP
What did Maithili say?: Although Maithili Thakur did not say anything clearly about contesting the elections, but from the way in which she expressed gratitude to Vinod Tawde and Nityanand Rai and replied to the post, it is being speculated that she is willing to enter the electoral field.
Every interaction with those who dream big for Bihar reminds me of the power of vision and service. I am grateful and honoured from the bottom of my heart. Nityanand Rai ji and Shri Vinod Sridhar Tawde ji.”- Maithili Thakur, folk singer
According to information from BJP sources, Maithili Thakur can be fielded from Alinagar assembly seat in Darbhanga district. BJP’s Mishri Lal Yadav is currently the MLA from this seat. However, the party is angry with his questionable activity during the majority proposal of the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in 2024 and there is talk that he will not get a ticket this time. In the past few days, Mishri Lal was also seen outside the Rabri residence with her son.
Who is Maithili Thakur?: 25-year-old Maithili Thakur, a resident of Benipatti in Madhubani district of Mithilanchal, spent her childhood in Delhi. His parents Bharti Thakur and Ramesh Thakur left Bihar in the 90s and started living in Delhi. Maithili has received training in classical music and folk music. She sings in many languages including Maithili. In 2021, he was selected for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Youth Award of Sangeet Natak Akademi for his contribution to the folk music of Bihar. The Election Commission had also appointed Maithili as the ‘state icon’ of Bihar.
