Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Ganesh Joshi today inaugurated the Silk Expo 2025 at a private hotel in Dehradun, organized jointly by the Silk Mark Organization, the Central Silk Board, the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the Directorate of Silk, Uttarakhand, and the Uttarakhand Cooperative Silk Federation. On this occasion, Minister Ganesh Joshi also inspected the stalls displayed at the expo. During the visit, Minister Joshi expressed his delight at the powerloom-made sarees donated by him in Selaqui. Minister Joshi congratulated the entrepreneurs, silk weavers, officials, and employees from across the country who had come to the expo. More than 26 participants from 12 states have exhibited their silk products at this exhibition, where high-quality silk fabrics, diverse weaving styles, and designs are available to customers under one roof. In his address, the Minister stated that the mulberry silk of Uttarakhand is considered the best in the country, and that is why the state is known as the “Bowl of Bivoltine Silk.” He informed that currently, approximately 7,500 sericulture families in the state are producing 312.02 metric tons of mulberry silk cocoons. He explained that silk weaving was previously at a low level in the state, but after the formation of the government, special efforts were made in this direction. The Silk Federation not only trained traditional weavers but also established three powerlooms at the Growth Center in Selaqui to produce quality textiles. Minister Joshi said that the Silk Federation’s “Doon Silk Brand” has now established itself nationally. Last year, the Federation produced silk textiles worth approximately โน5 crore, earning a profit of โน1 crore. He also praised the grand fashion show “Rivayat-e-Resham-2” presented by the girls from the Silk Directorate and the B.S. Negi Women’s Technical Training Institute, ONGC, during the Silk Expo. He said that this program is an example of mutual cooperation between the institutions, which on one hand is providing the girl students an opportunity to showcase their talent, while on the other hand is also making effective promotion of the Doon Silk brand possible. During this, Minister Ganesh Joshi also honored the employees who did excellent work in silkworm rearing.
