On Saturday, Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (retd) visited the disaster-affected areas of Dehradun district. He conducted an on-the-spot inspection of the damage caused by the heavy rainfall on September 15th and 16th and reviewed the relief and reconstruction efforts. The Governor first visited the Collectorate and received detailed information about the disaster from district administration officials. District Magistrate Mr. Savin Bansal informed the Governor that as soon as the disaster was reported, the administration immediately reached the affected areas and initiated search and rescue operations. The DM himself visited the affected areas and led a team to restore normalcy. He presented a detailed account of the relief work being carried out in other affected areas, including remote areas. The Governor praised the DM and his entire team, saying that the administration reached the affected people and provided assistance within a very short time. He said that reaching remote areas and reassuring the people is commendable. The Governor said that such natural disasters occur from time to time, but we should learn from each situation and prepare better for the future. He said that officers and employees who performed outstandingly during disaster management should be honored to encourage their hard work and dedication. The Governor then conducted a site inspection of the damaged bridge at Nanda Ki Chowki. He gathered detailed information from officials and reviewed the ongoing work on the alternative route. Officials stated that the alternative route would be ready within three to four days, while the complete reconstruction of the bridge would take some time. The Governor directed that traffic be restored quickly to avoid inconvenience to the public. Local residents also met with the Governor and shared their concerns. The Governor then conducted a site inspection of the disaster-affected Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple. He inquired from priests and local residents about the damage caused by the disaster. He stated that this is a difficult and challenging time for all of us, but with the efforts of the government and administration, the situation will soon return to normal. The Governor performed Jalabhishek at the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple and prayed for the happiness, prosperity, and well-being of the people of the state.
