Junagadh: Junagadh B Division Police has arrested a fraud couple who used to cheat people in Gujarat by luring them with government jobs. Ravi and Pragya Chovatiya used to trap people in Junagadh and surrounding areas by claiming to be the personal assistant of the MLA.
According to the news, originally residents of Akolwadi and currently living on Kotharia Road in Rajkot, husband and wife Ravi and Pragya Chovatiya were cheating people from Junagadh by luring them with government jobs in the Gujarat Secretariat. On the basis of the complaint of Shilpaben Bhakhar, a resident of Junagadh, the police arrested the accused couple and solved the case of fraud of about Rs 1 crore 18 lakh 38 thousand 750.
Gang of fraudsters using fake identity cards
Ravi and Pragya Chovatiya used to trap people in Junagadh and surrounding areas. Both of them used to cheat them by promising them government jobs in Gujarat Secretariat, contracts for planting trees in Delhi Highway Corridor, government aid of Rs 3 crore for building buffalo stables and financial loans from banks.
In this way, they used to cleverly trap people in their trap. Shilpaben Bhakhar, a resident of Junagadh, also fell into the trap of this couple. She gave them Rs 50 lakh 8 thousand in the name of contract for planting trees in Delhi National Highway Corridor. However, on not getting the contract, Shilpaben lodged a complaint with the police on September 6, 2025, on the basis of which the police arrested the couple.
Fraud case of more than 1 crore solved
Police investigation has revealed that the accused Ravi and Pragya Chovatiya have trapped many people in their trap by creating a false identity of the MLA’s personal assistant and have cheated them of Rs 1 crore 18 lakh 38 thousand 750. Apart from this, they were also trapping businessmen in their trap. The investigation also revealed that they had transacted huge amounts of money by assuring traders to sell their goods at a higher margin. Currently, Junagadh police have registered a case of fraud against the couple and are investigating further.
