Worrying figures have come out for Dehradun in the Nari 2025 Women Safety Report of the National Commission for Women. According to the report, Dehradun’s women safety index was only 60.6 percent, which is less than the national average of 64.6 percent.
On the other hand, Dehradun was far behind compared to cities like Kohima where the safety index is 82.9 percent. This survey was conducted on the basis of questions asked to women on various matters. The survey report states that only 50 percent of women in Doon consider the city very safe or safe, whereas in other cities this average is 60 percent. At the same time, 41 percent of women described the city as neither safe nor unsafe.
Incidents of harassment were also recorded in public places. Apart from this, about 10 percent of women feel unsafe or very unsafe. During the day, 70 percent of women feel safe, but as soon as night falls, this number decreases to 44 percent. Incidents of harassment were also recorded in public places. Six percent of women in Dehradun became victims of harassment, many of whom went through such incidents repeatedly.
Most of the cases were of verbal harassment. The situation on women-friendly infrastructure and transport system was also not found satisfactory.
