The Badrinath highway is blocked since morning due to debris at Pagalnala, Bhanerpani, Nandprayag and Kameda near Gauchar. Due to heavy debris, there is a long line of vehicles on both sides of the highway. Pilgrims are waiting for the highway to open.
The debris has been cleared and the movement of vehicles has been started, but debris is still accumulated on the hill side, due to which the road can be closed again at any time. Pilgrims from Gujarat said that it took 16 hours to reach Pipalkoti from Srinagar. The Badrinath highway remains dangerous at many places.
The highway is also closed at Kameda near Gauchar, and Nauli, Ming Gadera and Kal Jabar of Simli-Gwaldam-Almora highway. Hills are continuously breaking due to rain and there are piles of debris on the roads.
District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari said that the work of removing debris and opening the road is going on at all places. The movement of vehicles will be restored soon
