The Rudrapur Municipal Corporation confiscated the belongings of a Kanpur businessman who was luring people with the promise of a lottery on Gangapur Road. The mayor issued a stern warning to him. On Wednesday, Mayor Vikas Sharma stopped by a roadside stall in front of Neelkanth Dham on Gangapur Road after seeing a crowd. People there informed the mayor that people were being defrauded in the name of a lottery. A woman, Shakuntala, reported that the vendor lured her with electronic items and forced her to buy a coupon for 100 rupees. After accepting the coupon, she was told that she had won an induction cooker worth 1850 rupees in the lottery. Additional money was being demanded for the cooker.
The mayor stated that other people in the crowd also made similar complaints. He summoned the municipal corporation team to the scene, confiscated the accused’s belongings and vehicle, and sent them to the corporation office. People were refunded on the spot. The businessman identified himself as Raees Ahmed, a resident of Kanpur. The mayor directed Chief Municipal Commissioner Shipra Joshi to investigate Raees’ activities.
Action will be taken against illegal stalls.
Mayor Vikas Sharma directed the Chief Municipal Commissioner to launch a campaign against those operating illegal stalls on busy city streets. He stated that some outsiders are selling counterfeit and substandard goods by setting up stalls on the roadside without permission. The corporation will take strict action against such individuals.
